Both Christy and I were just looking for friends when we happened to meet on Spark.com. We figured that the best way to meet people was through a service that specialized in dating, and the profile information at the site certainly did an excellent job of matching people up.
Christy and I met online at the beginning of November 1999. She had corresponded with several other people at the site before she got my email. She told me later that she almost didn't respond just because she hadn't had much success up to that point. We started to exchange emails...lots of them back and forth.
We found out about each other and started getting more and more interested. Shortly thereafter, we decided it was time to go out on a date and meet each other. So, on December 4th, we went out on our first date...neither one of us wanted it to end.
From that point on, we saw each other constantly. Even though we lived over one hour apart, we saw each other several times per week (I would make the drive up to her place after work). During this time, I also became very attached to her son Ryan (he and I hit it off too).
The relationship continued to grow. Christy and Ryan moved in with me in February of 2000. We both figured we would get married...so, in May of 2000, I spoke to her dad and asked for his blessing to marry his eldest daughter. Both he and her mom gave it to me. So, on the evening of June 5th, we got engaged. We were at a restaurant, and I left to "go to the bathroom." I asked the waitress to bring in a bottle of non-alcoholic wine/cider when she brought the bill. Christy had no idea what I was doing. At the end of the meal, the waitress brought the bottle. I pulled out the ring, got down on one knee and asked Christy to marry me while I put the ring on her hand. Needless to say, Christy said yes. Since it wasn't just a union of two people, but of 3, I even made sure Ryan was there.
Then, we had to figure out when to have the wedding. We both wanted to get married sooner than later, but we also wanted to make sure we had enough time to plan it...and to have it outside. So, we decided that the best thing was to wait until the following spring. May 5, 2001 was our wedding day. Thanks to the help of our families and friends, it was perfect and will be remembered by all.
We both have found a life-long companion and best friend.
